All Hail Google!!!

googledomination

A couple of weeks ago Kev did a post on Google and it’s aims at cloud computing.

I have been been keeping up with the news and it seems like everyday this week Google has had something in the news that will revolutionize the way we use computers.  Here are just a few things…

Google Goggles – This allows users to search by pics.

Real Time Searches – As you are typing it, it becomes a search result.

Google DNS – Bascially creating a phonebook of all websites for you.

And that’s just the tip of the ice berg.  Have you ever taken a look at everything Google offers. It’s kind of scary.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love Google.  I use Google Chrome.  I have a Gmail.  Account.  I was even thinking about getting the Droid at one time.

I think they are creating a new realm of computing that we will all enjoy.  But they are also becoming a huge company that can rival Microsoft  and they collect a lot of your information everytime you use one of their products.  So let’s keep our eyes on King Google.

What are you’re thoughts?  Do you think Google is scary?  Do you trust them?  Am I being paranoid?

Don’t answer that last question.

Not only is Google scary, but also Google’s cousins Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter are scary. I don’t care what anyone says, it is a government conspiracy to keep a tracking device on people. Big brother is real. Have you googled yourself lately? Well, when I googled myself the other night, not only did I see my tweets, but I saw where my tweets were then hooked up to other websites that were related to the subject I tweeted about. Also, my name also appeared under names in which I have people saved as friends on FB/Twitter. Honestly, this whole social networking thing is becoming a big NO MA’AM. As a self proclaimed Googleologist, I get a kick out of googling and looking people up ( especially when they front and/or lie), but seeing all these connections attached to my name is not cool. I guess it is internet karma….

At first glance, Google does seem scary. They’re quickly becoming the new Microsoft. And we’d all be naive to think that Microsoft wasn’t or isn’t collecting data on us. Heck, we’ve been using their products for 20+ years.

There is hope in the midst of all the government, internet, Google, technology conspiracies. We have two options:

      1) Go to work for the CIA, NSA, or FBI.

      2) Control what we actually put out there. Once you press send, it’s a done deal. It’s out there forever. But we can control what information we put out there. With Facebook, you can limit the access other people have to what you put out there, but it’s still out there. And if it’s out there, then all it takes is someone smart enough, and with enough will and resources to get it. So, in a nutshell, just watch what you put out there. Sure, those pics from that drunken night are memorable. And at one time, you would just print them off, show them off to your friends, and have a good laugh. Now you can upload them for your 4-5 friends and 300 (million) other people to see. If your life is an open book, then fine. Share away! But if you are concerned about privacy, then you have to take into consideration what information you want to share with the world… because the world is indeed becoming smarter.

This whole comment sounded like a post. LOL

I have a question: Do you think these companies like Microsoft collect our data, and then when they need a bailout from the government they give it over to get the money???? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm……..

    • Maybe. But you sound a little more paranoid than me now….lol

There’s no telling. In Microsoft’s case, the government already tried to break up the monopoly they had in the 90’s… and one of the reasons the gov’t went after MS was because of the “too big to fail” thing. I think the gov’t is falling back on companies like MS and Google in exchange for information when they need it. See FOI & Patriot Acts.

Hey, I am a consipracy theorist ( I mean a true conspiracy theorist, I love Dick Gregory for that reason alone) We inherently sound paranoid! LOL

Speaking of the FOIA act, that law is DANGEROUS! It should be called the “Put Yo A** on Blast” Act. That is how certain politicians that shall remain nameless got busted….
